This mesh evening bag is a signature Oroton design, its surface made up of hundreds of tiny silver-tone discs linked into a fine, fluid fabric. The frame is finished with a soft scalloped edge, closing with a trio of ball-top clasps along the top bar, and a fine snake-link chain in double strands allows it to sit comfortably at the wrist or shoulder. Inside, a champagne satin lining carries the Oroton label at the centre of the pocket.

Metallic mesh like this holds its own without needing a partner in bold colour. Let it catch the light against a tailored wool coat in charcoal, or carry it through a long evening with a fluid silk skirt and quiet jewellery. DESIGNER INFORMATION: Oroton began in Sydney in 1938, when Boyd Lane founded a textile company importing quality European textiles. The brand later became known for metallic mesh accessories from the early 1950s, alongside scarves, handbags, wallets and leather goods that made Oroton a familiar name across Australia and New Zealand. A proper Australian fashion staple, vintage Oroton pieces are very much the ones collectors keep an eye out for.
