This charcoal Eastex shift was tailored from a wool blend in a New Zealand workroom. The fabric falls with weight, holding a clean line from the square neckline through to the knee. At the collarbone, a narrow band of diamond quilting catches tiny beads, the only ornament on an otherwise unbroken silhouette. The shoulders are set with a soft dropped seam, easing into three quarter sleeves that taper to just above the wrist. A fitted waist gives way to a straight skirt, released at the back by a single kick pleat.

The fitted waist and straight skirt bring definition through the middle, so if you like a dress that follows your natural shape without clinging, this is one for you. The dropped shoulder gives easy room through the upper arm, and the three quarter sleeve pairs well layered under a coat or worn alone. Add knee high boots and simple jewellery for the office, or heels and a wool coat for evening. The kick pleat lets you walk and sit freely.
