Diane Freis Original 1980s Black Floral Georgette Drop-Waist Midi Dress - DESIGNER 'VIP'

Diane Freis built her reputation on exactly this kind of dress: georgette so light it barely registers as fabric, cut generously so it moves rather than clings, printed so boldly it stops a room. This one layers two distinct prints - red polka dots frame a wide yoke at the neckline and form a gathered waistband that sits at the natural waist, and everywhere else, a garden of red roses, purple blooms and cobalt blue flowers tumbles freely across a black ground. The skirt is finely gathered into soft vertical folds that fan out beautifully as you walk, finishing at midi length with a delicate frilled hem. The batwing-style sleeves gather to elasticated cuffs, completing the silhouette with the relaxed ease Freis was known for.
