At least 50 years young, this dress in vivid purple florals on a speckled ground of olive, khaki and black is stunning. The Lydia of London label tells you this came out of London at the height of the city's mid-century fashion moment, when British designers were producing work that was genuinely bold and entirely their own. The dress is a fitted shift with a beautiful ruched drape gathered softly across the front neckline and bust, falling into a gentle cowl fold. It is the detail that sets this dress apart from every other shift in the room.

The silhouette is fitted through the waist and hip, hitting at the knee, with a rear zip closure and sleeveless cut. The fabric is a fine cotton blend with a slight lustre that gives the purple florals real depth and the overall print a painterly quality.

Wear it to a wedding with your favourite heels in bronze or silver and a slim silver cuff.
