Vintage Dove Grey Aluminium Mesh Handbag 'VIP'

At least a few decades old and still looking remarkably current, this soft dove-grey mesh handbag has that wonderful disco-meets-dinner quality that works just as well now as it would have when it first went out for the evening. The aluminium mesh is made up of hundreds of tiny linked tiles, giving the surface a lovely fluidity and a subtle sparkle whenever it catches the light.

The envelope-style flap is edged with slim gold-tone metal, with a magnetic closure tucked neatly underneath. Inside, it opens to reveal an organised interior with multiple sections and zipped compartments, all finished in coordinating grey fabric. An original long fine metal mesh strap means you can wear it over the shoulder or across the body, then tuck it inside and clutch perfection in your hand when the occasion calls for something a little more glamorous.

Pair it with a black velvet dress and sculptural silver earrings for the evening, or take it completely out of its original context with a white tee, dark denim and boots. Try it against cobalt, deep plum or emerald where that delicate grey mesh becomes a rather fabulous neutral.
