Black and green is such a sharp vintage combination, and here the green has been used almost like drawn lines across the dress. A double band circles the neckline and cuffs, then the pattern shifts below the waist into strong horizontal stripes crossed with finer diagonal lines. The result is graphic without being busy.

The long sleeves and neat round neckline give the upper half a beautifully clean line, while the dress falls into a gently shaped knee-length silhouette through the waist and hips. A centre-back zip keeps the front completely uninterrupted, which really suits the simplicity of the design.

This shape works well if you like a dress that follows the body without sitting tightly through the waist or hips. The long uninterrupted bodice gives a clean line through the upper body, while the patterned lower section draws the eye through the skirt rather than concentrating detail around the middle.

Vintage Clothing - 1970s Colourblock Wool Knit Shawl Collar Cardigan - Painted Bird Vintage Boutique & The Aviary - Knit

1970s Colourblock Wool Knit Shawl Collar Cardigan

$129.00 $89.00 Save $40.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

This cardigan is knitted in a rich colourblock of black and warm brown with a wide rib collar and front bands in black that fall open with no fastening. Above the elbow, each sleeve carries a paisley style jacquard panel in cream and brown, a decorative counterpoint to the plain knit through the body. Three-quarter sleeves finish with a narrow cream stripe at the cuff, echoed again at the hem. The body falls straight through, giving an easy drape front to back.

If you love an open, layered silhouette, this cardigan will suit you especially well thrown over a simple top or dress. Add tall boots and statement boho style jewellery to let the paisley detailing shine, or wear it loose over a denim dress for an easy everyday layer.
