This silver blouse catches the light with an allover floral swirl woven through with fine lurex thread, giving it a soft metallic shimmer that photographs beautifully and looks even better in person. The round neckline sits neatly at the collarbone, and the fitted bodice is shaped with princess seams that carry through to a self-fabric tie belt at the waist. Three shell buttons run down the front, and the sleeves are gently puffed at the shoulder before narrowing to the elbow. Below the belt, the blouse flares into a soft peplum hem.

Wear it with a high waisted skirt or wide leg trousers and let the peplum do the sculpting of your figure. Or use the tie around your neck to creare an elongated look. The metallic thread holds its own without any other jewellery, so keep the rest of the outfit simple and let this piece do the talking.

The fabric of this skirt is a lovely tone-on-tone floral jacquard woven into soft lavender cotton blend, so the pattern only reveals itself as the light shifts across the surface. Up close it shows clusters of blooms and leaves rendered in the weave itself, no print, no dye, just the textile doing the work. The waistband sits smooth and structured, releasing into deep forward pleats that open out into a full, sweeping maxi skirt with genuine volume and movement. The silhouette has real presence from every angle, with the pleats falling cleanly from hip to hem.

The generous pleat release means this skirt moves well and accommodates a range of proportions through the hip and thigh without pulling or flattening. The structured waistband defines the natural waist clearly, which balances the volume of the skirt below. Those who carry more fullness through the hip will find the skirt flows rather than clings. Pair with a fitted silk or cotton top tucked in to make the most of that waistband, or layer with a relaxed blouse for an easier, more everyday feel.

Metallic threads move like candlelight across this fitted lurex bodice, catching purple and pink light with every step. The dress narrows through the waist and releases into a softly pleated skirt, anchored by what looks to be a hand-worked crochet medallion at one hip. A sheer pleated godet panel drops below the knee, letting the fabric fall and flutter rather than cling. Spaghetti straps and a centre back zip keep the silhouette clean, while the fine gauge weave gives the fabric real weight and drape despite its light, glimmering surface. Made in California under the New Leaf label, this piece carries the shimmer and shape of a night built for dancing.

The fitted bodice sits close through the ribcage and eases at the hip, so the crochet cutout lands right where movement happens, drawing the eye without pulling at the fabric. Because the piece runs petite through the bust and waist, it suits a smaller, compact frame best, though the flared, sheer hemmed skirt adds room to move without adding bulk at the middle. Wear it as intended for evenings that call for shine. Let The Aviary confirm the fit in person before you commit, this is a dress that rewards trying on.

A periwinkle all-over floral lace in a soft, open weave covers the entire length of the gown, from the gently puffed short sleeves to the sweeping skirt below. The construction is where it gets interesting: a fitted lace bodice gives way to a double-layered peplum at the hip, its curved hem trimmed with the same tightly crimped ruffle that edges the square almost sweetheart neckline, centre front placket and sleeve cuffs. That ruffle trim, dense and tactile against the open lace ground, is the detail that makes this dress genuinely special.

The neckline sits wide enough to balance broader shoulders beautifully, while the peplum layers at the hip add volume and softness below the waist without adding bulk. If you carry more evenly through the bust and waist, the sheer lace bodice skims the body lightly, and the gathered long skirt falls away from the hip in loose, fluid panels. This one calls for a silk or satin slip underneath, ivory or white, and very little else. Just the kind of dress you wear to something that matters.

That cobalt stops you. A rich, slightly heathered blue that only comes from quality wool blended with silk, the kind of fabric that holds its shape across decades without losing its softness. The body of this skirt is structured and smooth, weighted beautifully at the hip with a quiet authority. The real story is in the detail: three diagonal silk ribbon trims sweep across the front hip yoke in what looks to be hand-dyed terracotta, amber, teal and rose, each one a small colourful joy and stroke against that deep blue ground. Below the yoke, a cascade of tiered silk ruffle in the same tie-dye palette erupts from the side seam, bold and entirely unexpected against an otherwise tailored silhouette.

The pencil cut is fitted through the waist, hip and thigh, creating a clean line that elongates beautifully. The partially elasticated waist sits at the natural waist without pulling or pinching, making this genuinely comfortable to wear all day. Those diagonal trims draw the eye across the hip rather than straight across it, which distributes visual weight with real cleverness.

A cobalt blue that shifts toward indigo depending on the light, the easy care blend fabric has a fine slubbed texture running through it, giving the surface a subtle visual movement. Then there are those buttons: bold, glossy orange resin against all that blue, with red topstitching running the length of the front placket and tracing the collar points and cuffs.

The shirt cuts a fitted, elongated line through the body, falling to the hip that works tucked into a high-waisted skirt or left loose over slim trousers. The pointed collar frames the face and neck without overwhelming a narrower shoulder line, and those long sleeves with their neat buttoned cuffs keep the look svelte. Tuck the front only, leave the back out, and you've got one of the most effortless silhouettes in the wardrobe.

A glorious navy background blouse comes alive with a lush, hand-style embroidered floral bib running from the open V-neckline down the chest, daisy blooms in amber, ice blue and cream tumbling over teal vines and pink buds, with scattered posies drifting across the body, collar and cuffs. The wide 1970s collar is embroidered right to its tips, and the gathered cuffs carry the same floral detail, so this blouse is as beautiful from across a room as it is up close. The fabric drapes and flows softly and keeping its shape beautifully.

The straight cut style means this one works tucked in or worn loose, adapting to whatever the day calls for. The deep V of the embroidered bib draws the eye straight to the face and naturally lengthens the neckline, which is always flattering across the bust and shoulder. Wear it with denim shorts and simple espadrilles or sandals for a relaxed summer look. Layer it under a longline blazer and tailored skirt as the weather cools for a spiffy work look.

A beautifully preserved Australian authentic vintage dress in a muted powder blue wool blend, tailored with remarkable precision and softness. The sculptural crossover scarf collar, trimmed in cream piping lays atop a beautifully tailored top. The neckline is secured with a statement button fastening, creating an elegant architectural frame through the neckline and shoulders. Fine pleating through the skirt gives the silhouette graceful movement, while the matching belt softly defines the waist. The wool has a refined finish typical of mid-century tailoring, balancing practicality with quiet glamour. A rare example of boutique Australian dressmaking from Susan Silvers Peters, complete with original labels and thoughtful construction throughout.

The silhouette offers elegant structure through the shoulders and waist while allowing fluid movement through the skirt and hips. The broad (removable) scarf collar naturally balances the upper frame and draws attention upward, making it particularly flattering for those who enjoy soft tailoring around the bust and neckline. Style with boots and a long wool coat through winter, or wear with delicate heels and delicate jewellery for evening occasions. The midi length and pleated skirt create beautiful motion while maintaining a polished line through the middle.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER: Operating from the prestigious Imperial and Her Majesty’s Arcades on Sydney’s Castlereagh Street, Susan Silvers Peters was an elite, mid-century boutique dressmaker catering to affluent clientele in the 1950s and 1960s. This rare label represents localized, limited-run Australian craftsmanship rather than mass production. Partnering with Swift Sportswear Sydney, the designer utilized groundbreaking textile technology of the era - blending premium wool with newly invented Terylene to create garments with crisp, permanently held pleats and immaculate structure. Today, surviving Susan Silvers Peters pieces are incredibly rare, museum-quality artifacts of mid-century fashion history that are highly prized by collectors for their architectural silhouettes and flawless preservation.

A beautifully preserved example of mid-century daywear, this Jontine Model dress carries the quiet practicality and charm of post-war dressing. Crisp navy and white vertical stripes elongate the silhouette, while the softly structured bodice and gentle A-line skirt create elegant movement through the body. The pointed collar and original cream buttons lend a neat, tailored finish, balanced by the ease of the cotton-feel Marveloom fabric, prized for its crease-resistant practicality during the era. Fine construction details, including the side snap closure and carefully panelled skirt, speak to thoughtful everyday craftsmanship.

The fitted waist creates shape while the striped placement draws the eye vertically through the body for a lengthened effect. The sleeves softly frame the shoulders and balance the hip line beautifully. Style with simple flats, espadrilles or a cane basket bag for an understated summer look.

This authentic vintage wrap blouse captures the elegance of mid-century dressing with its rich navy blue cotton and painterly monochrome floral print. Style it with tailored black trousers, dark denim, or a slim satin skirt for a striking contrast against the blue background. The monochrome floral pattern layers beautifully beneath wool coats and fine knits, or worn open over a simple slip dress for a softer, romantic mood. This Nicole dress is pure celebration dressing, the kind that makes an entrance without taking centre stage. Those fine straps and the cascading, floaty tiers give it gorgeous movement, while the rainbow stripe pattern keeps it playful and properly dressed up at the same time.

It is the perfect plus-one for weddings, barbeques, and a night out where you plan to dance. The lining keeps coverage sorted, and the minimal stretch gives a comfortable, slightly forgiving fit without losing the shape. The original side zip keeps the silhouette clean.

Style with a bright and sunny butter-yellow bag and gold hoops, or bring the blue forward with a cobalt wrap and silver sandals. If you want a warmer mood, try coral lipstick with a tan leather clutch and simple pumps. It also looks stunning with a soft knit shrug in white or red when the evening turns cool.

Rich with nostalgic character, this authentic tartan jacket captures the spirited tailoring and expressive colour palettes that defined mid-century dressing. Woven in a vivid royal blue tartan with accents of crimson, emerald, gold and ivory, the textured cotton blend features subtle raised detailing throughout the weave, creating beautiful depth and dimension. The sharply cut lapels, fitted waist and softly flared hemline lend the silhouette an elegant structure enhancing its sculptural line. Finished with statement buttons and practical pockets, it carries the charm of heirloom tailoring with enduring versatility.

This silhouette beautifully defines the waist while balancing the shoulders and creating a softly elongated line through the torso. The tailored fit suits those who enjoy structured dressing without heaviness, and the vibrant tartan pattern pairs effortlessly with denim, black tailoring or soft cream knitwear. Worn buttoned as a statement piece or layered open over simple separates, it brings warmth, individuality and a sense of archival elegance to modern wardrobes.

Derek Clothes. Made in New Zealand. A label that dressed New Zealand women with quiet confidence through the 1960s and 1970s, and this dress is a perfect example of why. The fabric is the first thing you notice. Soft and suede-like in feel, with a fine nap and a subtle texture that sits somewhere between ultrasuede and a brushed easy care blend. The colour is a gorgoeus grey/periwinkle blue that holds beautifully in natural light. The dress has a neat shirt collar, a button front placket, short cap sleeves, side seam pockets and comes with its original matching belt, which cinches the waist with a simple buckle closure.

The silhouette is straight and relaxed through the body, falling to just below the knee. Wear it belted with tan leather ankle boots and a warm amber necklace for a weekday look. Swap in heeled sandals in cognac or gold for a Friday evening. Try a bold orange or cherry red belt in place of the original for a colour contrast that pops against the blue. A crisp white blazer thrown over the top takes it somewhere more structured when the occasion calls for it. This dress works particularly well if you are fairly even through the bust and hip, as the straight silhouette follows the body evenly from shoulder to hem. Worn belted, it defines the waist beautifully for those who like a defined middle. Worn without the belt, it skims through the body and suits those who prefer a relaxed, unstructured line. The sleeve sits close to the shoulder and gives the look a clean, unfussy finish.

This Sonny blouse is a clean, bright white piece with a little romance built in. The wide collar is finished with soft lace, the armholes are trimmed the same way, and the fabric-covered buttons run down the front like a proper finishing touch.

It is lightly shaped through the bust and waist, then finishes at a cropped length that sits beautifully with high-waisted denim, tailored trousers, or a full skirt. The cotton blend feels breathable and wearable, with enough structure to keep the silhouette looking neat.

Try it with one of our denim skirts and silver flats for dinner. Or go modern with wide-leg silk trousers, a cherry-red heel, and a bold earring. If you want something a little softer, pair it with a pale butter-yellow cardigan and a navy skirt.

This shape is great if you like a defined waist and a tidy fit through the bust without extra bulk. It also works well if you prefer your tops to sit close to the body, then finish at the waist so your proportions stay balanced with high-rise bottoms.

This one has a detail that sets it apart from every other denim skirt you have ever owned. Two large patch pockets sit at the front hip, each finished with a bold red cross-stitch X that turns a simple utilitarian feature into something with real character.

The skirt is mid blue cotton chambray, cut from a fitted waist into a clean A-line that falls to midi length with easy, unhurried movement. The fabric has a smooth, slightly worn quality that makes it feel like a piece you have had forever. Back zip closure, clean waistband. Wear it with a fitted white or ivory blouse tucked in and tan leather loafers for something polished. A cherry red knit tucked in picks up the pocket stitching beautifully.

Try it with a striped Breton top and white sneakers for a weekend look, or a simple black fitted tee and hoop earrings for an evening that keeps things easy. The A-line cut suits those who carry more volume through the hip and thigh than the waist, skimming evenly from the waistband and creating a long balanced line to the hem. For those who are more evenly proportioned, it adds movement and ease without adding bulk. The midi length works well on all heights.|

At least 50 years young, this ice blue fit and flare dress is the kind of piece that makes you want to put on your best shoes and find somewhere wonderful to go. The colour is a soft, clear baby blue with a fine woven dot texture that catches the light with a gentle sheen. The bodice is carefully darted and seamed to create a close, considered fit through the bust and waist, finishing with a clean V neckline and broad shoulder straps. From the waist, the skirt releases into a full, sweeping circle that moves the way skirts from this era always did, with real volume and a life of its own. This is a dress that was made for dancing, and it shows.
The skirt has the kind of sweep that a dance floor demands, and the bodice is structured enough to hold everything in place while the skirt does exactly as it pleases.

Wear it to a garden wedding with strappy gold heeled sandals and pearl drop earrings. Try ivory kitten heels and a fine silver bracelet for a races day or a ball that feels genuinely special. For something more contemporary, pair it with white sneakers and a denim jacket for a styling contrast that feels fresh and considered. The ice blue of this dress works beautifully with rose gold jewellery, a bold fuchsia lip, or a clutch in deep emerald or coral.

This dress is made for a petite frame with a very small, defined waist and will look breathtaking on the right person. Is that you? ...

At least 50 years young, this duck egg blue polka dot dress is the sort of piece that stops you in your tracks and smile. White spots on a soft mid blue ground, long sleeves with a neat buttoned cuff, and a self-tie pussy bow at the neck that can be worn as a proper bow, loosely knotted or left to drape. It is a dress with personality built into every seam. The silhouette is a fitted bodice releasing into a full, gently flared skirt that moves beautifully. The waist is defined and the skirt has real sweep to it, the kind of shape that looks wonderful both standing still and walking into a room.

The fabric is an easy care blend with a slight sheen that gives the blue a warmth and depth in natural light. Long sleeves make this a dress that works across the seasons, as good in an autumn as it is on a spring afternoon. This dress is made for a petite frame with a very defined waist, and it will look extraordinary on the right person. Wear it with your favourite kitten heels in tan or cherry red and a small structured bag. Try white ankle boots for something that feels fresh and modern. For an evening occasion, silver strappy heels and a silver clutch make it feel genuinely special. The blue in this print also loves a pop of warm coral or a bold tangerine lip.

This vibrant cobalt silk ensemble by Melbourne label 'Leonie' is a testament to the mid-century craftsmanship that defines the Golden Age of Australian tailoring. The set consists of a meticulously structured sleeveless dress paired with a matching cropped bolero jacket, both rendered in a light weight silk that offers a lustrous, architectural sheen.

The dress features a sophisticated square neckline and an intricately pleated cummerbund-style waist that provides a beautiful structural focus. The bodice is designed to skim the ribs before transitioning into a classic pencil skirt that finishes with a traditional kick pleat for ease of movement. The accompanying bolero adds a layer of refinement with its three-quarter sleeves and delicate floral lace appliqué at the neckline, framing the face with an air of quiet luxury.

This ensemble is particularly effective for those who find their shoulders are a touch narrower than their hips, as the bolero’s structure and the lace detailing draw the eye upward to create a perfect visual balance. If you have a more linear frame, the pleated waist detail works beautifully to create the illusion of curves, defining the midline with soft, intentional geometry.

Style the dress on its own for a summer wedding with a simple stiletto and a vintage clutch. For a polished gallery opening or a formal dinner, add the bolero to complete the silhouette.

This two-tone authentic vintage shirtwaister-style dress is pure fabulous. The fabric in the bodice gives you that crisp, clean, tailored line through the shoulders and collar, while the patterned cotton-blend skirt brings in just the right amount softness and personality.

It is designed to flatter without clinging, with a softly defined waist where the bodice glides into the skirt. The skirt finishes just below the knee in an elegant pencil-skirt shape that sits neatly and moves well, plus you have the practicality of the original buttons up top and an original side zip.

Style it for work with a blazer and boots, then take it into evening with a silk scarf and statement earrings. On warmer days, roll the sleeves, open the collar, and add espadrilles or simple flats.

This exceptional vintage dress is all about line and colour with the pleasant surprise of pockets! That perfect, clear blue, the kind that emulates a polished without trying look. Combined with a tailored silhouette that just skims the body and keeps everything beautifully feminine.

The fabric has a subtle corded texture and a soft sheen that suggests silk, though the fibre content is unconfirmed. It closes with an original side zip, and inside you will spot generous seam allowance, which is always a good sign of quality construction and gives helpful wiggle room for careful alterations if needed.

Style it simply with a blazer and boots, or go full evening with statement jewellery and a sharp little clutch. If you want to play with colour, try citrus accessories for a modern pop, or keep it classic with pearl earrings and a lipstick-red bag.

This teal silk satin beauty comes with the kind of provenance you cannot fake. It was handmade with care by one of our New Zealand collectors who wore it to a ball, then it headed off to Australia for a wedding when her granddaughter gave it a second turn around the dancefloor. Now she is in her 90s and would love it to go on and start another tradition in a new family.

The cut is pure special-occasion theatre, without being fussy. A clean, shaped bodice and short sleeves keep the upper half elegant and wearable, while the skirt is all about sculpted drape and volume, gathered into soft swags that move beautifully as you walk. The colour is that rich teal that plays nicely with gold, pearls, crystal, or a bold lip and a simple up-do.

Styling-wise, you can go classic with champagne heels and a vintage clutch, or modern with metallic platforms and a statement cuff. If you are wearing it for a winter event, add a cropped velvet jacket in deep plum, a soft faux-fur in ivory, or a fine mohair knit in misty grey-blue for a tonal moment.

This teal hostess-style shift will make a polished sparkling entrance. Clean lines, a crisp sleeveless cut, and that high neckline that frames the face to perfection. Then the beadwork arrives and suddenly the whole dress is on pointe!

The detailing is genuinely sublime. A sparkling, sculpted collar with silver-toned bursts, aqua beading, sequins, and tiny pearl accents, echoed down the front bib and finished again at the armholes. It is luxe and intentional rather than fussy, which is exactly what you want for weddings, cocktails, and any room where the lighting is doing you favours.

Style it with a sharp ivory blazer and metallic heels for modern event wear, or lean into colour with orchid, chartreuse, or paprika accessories for something bolder. It is also brilliant with a sleek low bun and statement earrings since the neckline does everything it was meant to do for you.

This enchanting two-piece set sits right at the crossroads of fashion and beauty history. Bearing the label of luxury French cosmetics house Lancôme Paris, this authentic vintage ensemble likely dates to the 1980s, a decade that adored a little Jazz Age romance and made it feel fresh again.

Crafted from delicate seafoam lace woven throughout with a fine gold metallic thread, the finish has a soft, luminous glow. The silhouette tips its hat to the 1920s through simplicity rather than fuss, with a straight, waist-length blouse that sits neatly at the natural waist, paired with a clean, straight skirt. At the neckline, a contrasting cream lace appliqué adds a whisper of Edwardian charm, like a well-chosen antique detail for your collarbone.

This set is sheer and designed to be worn over a slip. Worn together, it reads like an elegant, era-referencing “dress” while still giving you the versatility of separates. Worn separately, the blouse looks sublime over a camisole with wide-leg trousers, while the skirt brings texture and glint to a simple silk tee or fine knit.

Layer it over a seafoam, cream, or pale gold slip for a seamless look, or choose a deeper tone underneath for contrast that lets the lace pattern stand up and introduce itself properly. Add pearls for a 1920s nod, or keep it modern with sculptural metallic jewellery and sleek heels.

It is a piece for the collector who loves provenance, and for the dresser who wants something truly distinct. Delicate, dazzling, and seriously hard to forget.

DESIGNER INFORMATION: Lancôme Paris is best known as a prestige French beauty house, founded in 1935 and built on the idea of luxury presentation and polished femininity. In the late 20th century, cosmetics brands occasionally commissioned limited fashion and promotional pieces to support counter displays, events, editorial partnerships, and brand-led campaigns. Items like this Lancôme-labelled lace set are typically produced in small runs and were not part of mainstream retail fashion distribution, which is why surviving examples are uncommon. For collectors, that crossover between a globally recognised heritage brand and an authentic period garment adds provenance, scarcity, and display-worthy appeal, all of which support its collectable value.

Colour blocking before it became 'a thing'. This authentic vintage dress from New Zealand label Passion Fruit by Peppertree is a study in smart dressing.

Crafted in a wool blend, the dress combines a rich teal green low turtleneck bodice with a geometric patterned A-line skirt. The contrast between solid and pattern creates visual interest without trying too hard. A belt at the natural waist provides definition and brings the two sections together.

Long sleeves and a turtleneck make this a winter-worthy piece, perfect for cooler months. The A-line skirt flares gently from the waist, creating balance and movement. This silhouette works beautifully whether you carry more fullness through the bust and shoulders or through the hips and thighs, the defined waist and flared skirt providing elegant proportion.

Passion Fruit by Peppertree was a New Zealand fashion label known for quality fabrication and considered design. This piece exemplifies that approach: practical, wearable, and quietly sophisticated.

Pair it with knee-high boots and a structured coat for work, or add tights and ankle boots for weekend ease. The teal and geometric pattern make accessories easy: keep them simple and let the dress do the talking.

Discover the magic of 1970s tailoring in this deep slate beauty. A sophisticated speckle print. Think tiny stars scattered across fabric that gives it just enough visual interest without overwhelming your look.

The soft pointed collar and streamlined cut work equally well buttoned-up for boardroom moments or casually unbuttoned for weekend wandering. Lightweight and drape-friendly, it tucks beautifully without bulk, making it the kind of vintage find that actually earns its place in your wardrobe. Layer it, tuck it, roll the sleeves up! This shirt adapts to whatever vibe you're after. Timeless, versatile, and unapologetically cool.

This is the kind of jacket that quietly upgrades everything you already own. Clean, tailored, and beautifully straightforward, with a deep bottle green tone that reads polished in daylight and rich after hours.

Made by Claudine Fashionwear by Bonds, this authentic vintage piece sits in that sweet spot between shirt and jacket, with a structured collar, a neat button-through front, and patch pockets that keep it practical without disrupting the line. The silhouette is long enough to feel composed, and gently shaped through the body so it skims the frame rather than clinging.

The details do the work. The slightly rounded hem, the wide cuffs, and the tidy pocket placement give it a refined finish. It is an easy layer that works across proportions because the cut is intentional, not fussy.

Wear it buttoned up as a top with tailored trousers, or open over a slip dress, a tee and denim, or a fine knit. It is also a strong alternative to a blazer when you want structure without feeling formal.

This is good fashion built for repeat wear, and it holds its shape in a wardrobe for the long haul.
