Some pieces make you stop mid-scroll and this is absolutely one of them! This extraordinary authentic vintage cropped evening jacket is entirely hand-beaded and sequinned on a silk ground, with clusters of oversized paillettes in pink, white and soft green layered to create three-dimensional floral blooms across the chest and shoulders. Between the flowers, a dense field of smaller iridescent sequins in midnight blue, teal and chartreuse catches and fractures the light in every direction. The neckline, hem and sleeve edges are finished with a couture-level trim of black spiked beads, larger disc sequins and polished black beads, a detail that could have taken a skilled artisan days to complete. The back is equally spectacular, the blooms tumbling across the shoulder blades with the same generosity as the front.

The cropped length sits just at the natural waist, which makes it a brilliant layering piece for a range of proportions. DESIGNER INFORMATION: American born (1935) designer Victor Costa, designs can be found at museums such as RISD and FIDM and Birmingham Museum of Art as well as high-end designer vintage resale sites. Born in 1935 and possessing a photographic memory, Costa once said, "Special occasion dresses have always been my hallmark." Costa became the in-house designer for Suzy Perette, a large New York label known for producing line-for-line copies of French haute couture. He designed some of the most beautiful and well constructed evening gowns of the 1980s under his own label. Fabrics used included fine silks, satins, and brocades. During his heyday, Costa’s client list was a "who’s who" of society and entertainment stars. His goal was to make all women feel beautiful.

Produced in Auckland by Russell Brighouse under the Sydney-based Mona Crawford Internationals label, this hostess maxi dress carries the kind of provenance that makes a collector pause. The fabric, a fine Easy Care crepe, holds a soft ivory tone that sets off the hand-applied embroidery with quiet authority. Purple corded thread spirals in continuous loops around the standup collar and again across the entire hem border, punctuated at intervals by raised gold bullion discs, densely coiled and textured like tiny medallions. The silhouette is a clean A-line, sleeveless and unadorned through the body, letting the embroidery do all the talking at the collar and hem. A back zip closes the neck opening with understated precision.

Fabric like a painting, this is a sensational 'Melbray of London' light blue, green and white silk chiffon gown. Couture quality and immaculate attention to detail. This dress is an iconic part of British history for collection and/or a truly gorgeous piece to wear.

DESIGNER INFORMATION: Terry de Havilland, was an English shoe designer, often cited as the ‘Rock n Roll Cobbler of the 1970s’ and is most famed for his key part in the ‘Swinging London’ fashion scene, with clients including Marianne Faithful, Led Zeppelin, Bianca Jagger and David Bowie. His platforms are still worn today by the likes of Kate Moss. In 2006, Terry de Havilland was nominated as Accessory Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards and in 2010 was awarded a Drapers Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to footwear design over the last fifty years.
