Archival 1990s Josep Font Silk Lamé Jacquard Maxi Skirt – Made in Spain

$369.00

Vintage Clothing - Mona Crawford Internationals of Sydney 1960s Cream Embroidered Hostess Maxi Dress - Painted Bird Vintage Boutique & The Aviary - Dresses

Mona Crawford Internationals of Sydney 1960s Cream Embroidered Hostess Maxi Dress

$329.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

Produced in Auckland by Russell Brighouse under the Sydney-based Mona Crawford Internationals label, this hostess maxi dress carries the kind of provenance that makes a collector pause. The fabric, a fine Easy Care crepe, holds a soft ivory tone that sets off the hand-applied embroidery with quiet authority. Purple corded thread spirals in continuous loops around the standup collar and again across the entire hem border, punctuated at intervals by raised gold bullion discs, densely coiled and textured like tiny medallions. The silhouette is a clean A-line, sleeveless and unadorned through the body, letting the embroidery do all the talking at the collar and hem. A back zip closes the neck opening with understated precision.

The shift-style cut sits away from the body through the bust and waist, making it genuinely comfortable across a range of proportions. Those with a fuller bust or hip will find the A-line release through the skirt accommodating, while the raised collar adds length to the neck and draws the eye upward. The clean, unworked bodice balances the richness of the embroidery so the overall effect is bold without being busy. Wear it as it was intended, as a statement piece with nothing competing, just simple gold earrings and bare arms.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER: Mona Crawford Internationals of Sydney was a distinguished mid-century fashion house with a reach that extended well beyond its Australian roots. Operating under an international licence model, the label partnered with regional producers to bring its designs to local markets, including a notable Auckland production arrangement with Russell Brighouse, whose name appears on the label of this very dress. Mona Crawford pieces were characterised by confident silhouettes elevated by hand-applied embroidery and decorative surface detail, hallmarks of a label that understood elegance without excess. Surviving pieces produced in collaboration with Russell Brighouse are particularly rare, making this a genuinely collectable artifact of mid-century Australasian fashion history.

Vintage Clothing - Collectable Thai Silk Maxi Dress with Matching Handbag 'VIP' - Painted Bird Vintage Boutique & The Aviary - Dresses

Collectable Thai Silk Maxi Dress with Matching Handbag

$299.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

This collectable Thai silk maxi dress is a full main-character moment, but the elegant kind. The bodice is a luminous sky blue Thai silk with that beautiful, natural slub texture that catches the light as you move. It feels rare, considered, and exactly the sort of piece that makes people lean in a little closer.

The silhouette is classic and incredibly flattering, with a clean high neckline, long sleeves, and a fitted waist that honours your shape without fighting it. From there, the skirt falls long and graceful, with a soft blush base scattered in watery teal and olive motifs, framed by a matching blue border panel and fabric-covered buttons. There is some fading on one shoulder (as shown), and it does not detract from wearing. It reads as gentle patina, not a deal-breaker.

And because the vintage gods occasionally smile upon us, it comes with a matching handbag. The perfect little finishing touch for weddings, black-tie events, or that fashion-forward bride who wants something unforgettable and deeply personal.

Pair it with pale gold heels, pearl drop earrings, and a soft pink lip for a romantic wedding look.

Marshalls Turn Ensemble - STYLIST COLLECTION

$289.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

A collectable two piece from Marshall Field & Company in Chicago, made in soft crimplene that holds its shape beautifully and keeps the silhouette looking polished from morning meetings through to dinner.

The print is the star: a saturated royal blue base with punchy red ring geometry, giving you that graphic, boutique-era confidence that never really goes out of style. The jacket is collarless and neatly tailored with statement buttons and practical pocket details, while the skirt is clean and streamlined, skimming the body in a way that celebrates your natural proportions without fuss.

Wear it as a full suit when you want maximum impact, or split it into wardrobe workhorses. The jacket looks brilliant over denim and a fine knit, and the skirt plays nicely with a simple tee, a silk blouse, or a merino and boots when the weather turns.

Vintage Clothing - 1950s Purple and Cream Daisy Print Silk Shirtwaist Dress - Painted Bird Vintage Boutique & The Aviary - Dresses

1950s Purple and Cream Daisy Print Silk Shirtwaist Dress

$249.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

Silk printed with overscale daisies in deep violet, soft periwinkle, cream and touches of sage green, this dress carries the particular vitality of mid-century textile design. The flowers are not delicate or demure: their petals are rendered with bold, almost graphic brushstroke energy, filling the fabric edge to edge with a print that feels as alive now as it did the day it was made. The construction is classically of its era, a shirt-style bodice with an open notch collar, full-length sleeves with deep turn-back cuffs secured by fabric-covered buttons, and a generous gathered skirt falling to below the knee. The original self-fabric belt, now widened, defines the waist and anchors the whole silhouette.

The gathered skirt creates fullness through the lower body, which means this dress balances beautifully on those who carry more volume through the shoulder and bust, drawing the eye down and outward through the skirt rather than holding it at the top. The belted waist is the pivot: tighten it for a defined hourglass line, or let it sit looser for an easier, more relaxed shape through the middle. Those with a longer torso will appreciate the generous length through the bodice. Wear it as it is, or layer with a simple knit or blazer in cooler months.

Vintage Clothing - Pierre Cardin Navy and White Pinstripe Bomber Jacket with Zip Front - Painted Bird Vintage Boutique & The Aviary - Coats & Jackets

Pierre Cardin Navy and White Pinstripe Bomber Jacket with Zip Front

$229.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

This Pierre Cardin bomber is that rare mix of sporty and polished, with crisp navy and white pinstripes that read graphic and clean, plus the kind of easy shape that works with almost anything you already own.

The zip-front silhouette is relaxed through the body with a neat collar and cuff finish, so it feels light and wearable. It is the sort of jacket you grab when the weather cannot make up its mind, or when your outfit needs one finishing layer.

For styling, have some fun with colour and print. Try it over a tangerine knit with a teal satin skirt. Or pair it with a lime tee and a violet trouser for a bold colour clash that still looks intentional because the stripe keeps the look anchored. If you want pattern, go for a large-scale floral midi in turquoise and acid yellow, or a leopard skirt with a bright red sneaker.

This cut works well if you like a jacket that blouses over the body rather than clings, and if you prefer a bit of structure at the shoulders without anything stiff. Great for layering!

Vintage Clothing - Gerber Exclusiv Metallic Lamé Pleated Cocktail Dress 'VIP' - Painted Bird Vintage Boutique & The Aviary - Dresses

Gerber Exclusiv Metallic Lamé Pleated Cocktail Dress

$229.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

Some dresses arrive with their own light source. This authentic vintage piece from German designer, Gerber Exclusiv Hamburg is one of them.

Crafted in metallic lamé with a viscose base, the fabric shimmers with every movement. An impressionistic pattern flows across the surface in jewel tones: emerald green, gold, rust, turquoise, and coral blend together like an abstract painting. The metallic finish catches light beautifully, transforming throughout the day from subtle gleam to full radiance.

The silhouette is pure elegance. A sleeveless bodice with a round neckline sits close to the body before gathering at the natural waist, creating a gentle blouson effect. Below, an accordion-pleated skirt fans out in glorious fullness, the fine pleating adding texture and movement. This shape works beautifully across different body types: the fitted bodice defines the waist, while the pleated skirt balances proportions whether you carry more fullness through the bust and shoulders or through the hips and thighs.

German craftsmanship at its finest. Gerber Exclusiv Hamburg was known for exceptional fabrics and construction, and this dress delivers both. The pleating is permanent-set, a technical achievement that ensures the skirt maintains its sculptural form.

Cocktail dressing with presence. Pair it with your favourite heels and minimal jewellery to let the fabric take centre stage.

Carla Zampatti Gold Stripe Knit Jacket Cardigan

$199.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

Bold yet quietly refined, this authentic Carla Zampatti jacket cardigan captures the relaxed glamour of Australian designer sports-luxe dressing across the late twentieth century. Crafted in a softly structured sweatshirting knit with luminous gold horizontal striping against deep navy, the silhouette falls in a long clean line with an open neckline and oversized statement buttons. The textured metallic weave catches the light beautifully, while the cotton blend construction gives the piece an effortless drape and comfortable weight. Designed with practical pockets and an elongated profile, it balances ease with unmistakable designer polish.

This silhouette layers beautifully over fine knits, slip dresses or tailored trousers, adding structure through the shoulders while skimming softly through the middle and hips. The vertical line created by the open neckline naturally elongates the frame, while the horizontal stripe placement lends a confident graphic edge without overwhelming proportions. Ideal for those who enjoy relaxed tailoring with presence, it transitions seamlessly between everyday wear and elevated evening styling.

Timer by David Jones Abstract Blue and Bronze Belted Shift Dress with Fabric-Covered Buttons | Vintage Australia | Size 10–12

$199.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

This Timer dress is a gorgeous slice of collectable Australian fashion history, with that polished department-store tailoring that was built to last. The blue-and-bronze abstract print is unique and has real style presence, while the cut keeps everything clean and wearable. Perfect for heading to lunch when you need something simple but stunning to put on.

The silhouette is a straight, tailored shift with gentle shaping through the bust, then it skims down the body without clinging. The double-breasted fabric-covered buttons add texture and refinement, and the original matching belt lets you choose your level of waist definition, cinched for structure or worn looser for ease. You could even style it creatively as a neck tie, or knot it at the ponytail for a pulled-together finish.

Style it with boots and a toffee-coloured or navy blazer for cooler months, or keep it simple with flats and a tidy shoulder bag when you want a sleek daytime look. The shape is especially good if you like a streamlined line through the tummy and hips, and it also suits anyone who prefers definition up top with a skirt line that falls straight and easy.

Vintage Clothing - Southwell NZ Made Stripe Print Blouse And High Waist A-Line Skirt Set 'VIP' - Painted Bird Vintage Boutique & The Aviary - Outfit Sets

Southwell NZ Made Stripe Print Blouse And High Waist A-Line Skirt Set

$199.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

This is the kind of authentic vintage set that does the work for you. A Southwell two piece in a richly grounded palette of rust, forest green, cream and black, with horizontal stripe bands broken up by tiny florals and decorative border motifs. It reads polished from a distance, and up close the print has that satisfying, intricate detail vintage does so well.

The blouse is button-through with a sharp pointed collar and long sleeves finished with button cuffs. The collar has its own contrast patterning, which frames the face beautifully and gives the set a clean, finished look without needing extra fuss. The skirt sits high at the waist and falls into an easy A-line, creating movement while keeping the silhouette intentional and flattering.

Worn together, it is a full outfit with proper presence. The high waist and A-line shape define the waist and let the skirt skim comfortably through the hips and thighs, so you get that classic proportion play without anything feeling tight or restrictive. Add loafers and a trench for weekday polish, or wear it with boots and a long coat when the weather turns. You can also split the set easily: the blouse works brilliantly with denim or tailored trousers, and the skirt pairs well with a crisp tee or fine knit.

This is a New Zealand made vintage set with real wardrobe value, because it gives you multiple looks while still feeling like one cohesive story.

Vintage Clothing - Green Prism Collar Dress - Painted Bird Vintage Boutique & The Aviary - Dresses

Green Prism Collar Dress

$199.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

This authentic vintage dress has that unmistakable 1970s attitude: a clean, sleek green bodice with an exaggerated pointed collar in a vivid geometric print, then a matching printed skirt that brings the movement. The collar length and shape are a big clue to the era, and the neat front button placket adds to that tailored, daytime to dinner polish that seventies dressing did so well.

Construction wise, the silhouette is built through shaping seams and a defined join where the skirt is set in, giving structure up top and an easy swish below. The crisp collar suggests interfacing for that sharp line, and the colour matched buttons keep the look intentional rather than fussy.

Let the collar be your jewellery and keep the neckline clear, then choose a simple sandal for day or a heeled mule for evening. If you are a bit fuller on your bottom half than your top half, the bold collar visually balances the look beautifully, while the skirt does its job with confidence and ease.

You wont find another with this sensational swish!

Vintage Clothing - Grey Floral Strapless Full Skirt Dress - Painted Bird Vintage Boutique & The Aviary - Dresses

Grey Floral Strapless Full Skirt Dress

$189.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

This grey strapless dress has that wonderful party shape that makes you understand why earlier cocktail dresses still turn heads. The skirt opens out from the waist with plenty of volume and a softly rounded almost puff skirt style hem finish. The interesting floral line pattern sits across the grey background rather than over it, which gives the whole dress a lovely silvery, evening-ready feel without needing sparkle.

Wear it with pewter heels (have you seen our Metallic Pewter Leather Pumps), a silver mesh bag and a little black cardigan when you want a classic evening line, or make it a little more edgy with raspberry lipstick and a cropped denim jacket. It is a brilliant dress for anyone who likes their occasion wear pretty, practical and just a bit old-movie without needing to arrive in a limousine.

Vintage Clothing - Chow Mein 1980s Royal Blue and Purple Paisley Cotton Drop-Waist Midi Dress - Painted Bird Vintage Boutique & The Aviary - Dresses

Chow Mein 1980s Royal Blue and Purple Paisley Cotton Drop-Waist Midi Dress

$189.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

Paisley has a history stretching back centuries, from the woven shawls of Kashmir to the Liberty prints of London, and this dress carries that lineage. The cotton is tightly woven and dense with detail: large-scale botanical paisley forms in royal blue, deep purple, forest green and cream sweep across the fabric in the kind of intricate repeat that takes time to fully absorb. Look closer at the close-up shots and the pattern reveals itself in layers, a fine ground of micro-detail beneath the sweeping primary motifs. The bodice is pin-tucked at the front with a button placket opening to a V-neckline, the shoulder seams are cleanly set, and the fitted yoke style drop waist transitions into a pleated midi skirt with soft, fluid movement through the hem.

The pin-tucked front placket draws the eye vertically through the bodice, which is particularly flattering if you want to elongate the upper body or minimise width across the chest and shoulders. The drop waist sits below the natural waist, skimming the torso, and the pleated skirt opens freely from the hip, giving ease and movement without adding visual bulk below. A side zip gives a clean, fitted entry.

Vintage Clothing - Diane Freis Original 1980s Black Floral Georgette Drop-Waist Midi Dress - DESIGNER - Painted Bird Vintage Boutique & The Aviary - Dresses

Diane Freis Original 1980s Black Floral Georgette Drop-Waist Midi Dress - DESIGNER

$900.00 $189.00 Save $711.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

Diane Freis built her reputation on exactly this kind of dress: georgette so light it barely registers as fabric, cut generously so it moves rather than clings, printed so boldly it stops a room. This one layers two distinct prints - red polka dots frame a wide yoke at the neckline and form a gathered waistband that sits at the natural waist, and everywhere else, a garden of red roses, purple blooms and cobalt blue flowers tumbles freely across a black ground. The skirt is finely gathered into soft vertical folds that fan out beautifully as you walk, finishing at midi length with a delicate frilled hem. The batwing-style sleeves gather to elasticated cuffs, completing the silhouette with the relaxed ease Freis was known for.

The blouson bodice skims the bust and torso without defining them, making this dress particularly flattering if you prefer ease across the upper body. The polka dot waistband provides a clear visual anchor at the natural waist, creating definition without requiring a fitted bodice beneath. The gathered skirt falls away from the hips with room to move, so those who carry proportion through the lower body will feel just as comfortable as those who do not. Wear it with your favourite footwear anywhere, anytime and any season!

1970s French Silky Lavender Paisley Dress

1970s French Silky Lavender Paisley Dress

$189.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

Across a ground of soft lavender, an extraordinarily dense and fine hand-drawn paisley print unfolds in ink-outlined swirls of pink, ochre, mint and teal. The silk moves with gentle draping from a gathered roll collar, surprise pockets then through a relaxed blouson bodice, falling to a softly gathered midi skirt that shifts with every step. A discreet back keyhole closes with three pearl buttons. Long sleeves finish the picture.

The blouson bodice skims across the chest and upper torso without clinging, making this a strong choice if you prefer fabric to float rather than define above the waist. The elasticated waist draws in gently, establishing proportion without restriction, while the gathered skirt falls away from the hip.

Vintage Clothing - Chow Mein Purple Ditsy Floral Cotton Blouson Midi Dress - Painted Bird Vintage Boutique & The Aviary - Dresses

Chow Mein Purple Ditsy Floral Cotton Blouson Midi Dress

$189.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

The print on this Chow Mein dress looks almost abstract from a distance, then resolves into hundreds of tiny flowers up close: violet, purple, teal, red and khaki blooms tumbling across a cream ground. The cotton is light and breathable, with just enough body to hold the shape of the blouson bodice without stiffness. Mother-of-pearl buttons run down the centre back, and the oversized batwing sleeves give the whole silhouette a relaxed, easy drape that reads as effortlessly put-together.

The blouson cut sits loose through the body, which means it skims rather than reveals, making it genuinely comfortable across a range of shapes. The dropped waist seam creates a visual break that lengthens the upper body, while the midi skirt adds volume below without adding visual weight. If you carry more through the hip and thigh, the skirt falls away cleanly from the blouson hem. This is an easy to style dress that wants flat sandals in summer and ankle boots in autumn.

Navy Polka Dot Satin Ensemble

$189.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

A classic navy polka dot ensemble with easy charm and lovely movement, this two-piece set brings together a relaxed button-front blouse and softly gathered midi skirt. The wash-and-wear fabric has a light, fluid feel, making it practical without losing its polish. Tiny white dots scatter across the deep navy base, while the pointed collar and long sleeves give the blouse a clean, timeless shape. Worn together, the pieces create an elegant coordinated look, with plenty of styling freedom when separated.

The blouse offers ease through the bust, waist and hips, sitting softly rather than closely against the body. The skirt’s elasticated waist gives comfort and flexibility, with gathered volume through the hips and hem for graceful movement. Style as a full set with loafers or boots, or wear the blouse tucked into denim and the skirt with a fine knit. Simple, useful and quietly striking.
